I recommend ProtonMail 100%. My only complaint is that their web interface could be a little bit faster. ProtonMail is a scam, much like Lavabit (although the nature of the scam differs). Lavabit at least had the decency to shut down once they realized their claims were fraudulent, once the government told them how they lied and that they would like to take advantage of those lies please. They deliver JavaScript to the browser to decrypt messages. As many of you may be aware, earlier today, criminals attempted to extort ProtonMail by alleging a data breach, with zero evidence.

Protonmail does not care about its users at all! For years it has been a pleasure dealing with this service. I've given them countless recommendations and word of mouth free advertisement. But this does not matter. I see that Protonmail does not value its loyal users whatsoever.

The other problem is that any online webmail service system that managed to implement encryption from within the web browser by using Javascript likely has fundamental security issues. And this isn’t us hating on ProtonMail. ProtonMail admits this fact on its official Threat Model web page. These kinds of DDOS are rare in the sense that they seldom disrupt the service.

ProtonMail servers are in Europe’s most secure data center, 3,300 feet (1,000 meters) under solid rock. The company is already subject to the strict privacy laws in Switzerland and its mission to provide the utmost security. This equates to your emails being physically and legally absolutely secure.
